Senior Public Health Practitioner
Nerys started her career as a mental health nurse and worked with people with severe and enduring mental health problems and homeless people. Nerys has worked in the NHS, local government and the voluntary sector. Since 2000 she has worked in health promotion and public health at local and national levels with a focus on improving mental wellbeing and tackling health inequalities. Nerys began working with impacts assessments in 2008 when she was Mental Wellbeing Impact Assessment (MWIA) Service Manager at South London and Maudsley NHS Trust. She is a co-author of the MWIA: Toolkit for Wellbeing (2011) and has provided advice, training and mentoring to people across the UK in using MWIA. Nerys also has a Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning for Professional Practice and really enjoys enabling others to learn and develop their skills in HIA. She worked for WHIASU from 2014-2015 and returned to the Unit in 2017 to support work on the Quality Assurance Framework for HIA and the Public Health (Wales) Act 2017 implementation.
